Blessings and Benedictions

Following the vows, you may wish to add one or more of the following prayers and blessings.

  1. May God bless and guard you.  May you have many joys, and be the light of each other's days. May you be the vehicle of Peace, and you be contained in Peace. Go now in Peace, Love, Light, and Happiness. Amen.
  2. We praise Thee, our Father, for the sweetness of mortal love which reminds us of the love of God and Christ.  We thank Thee for the deep love that draws man and woman together in this sacred bond of matrimony, causing them to cleave to one another and to establish a home where virtue, happiness, and truth may abide.  Help them ever to discern the true values of life, to keep fresh and unsullied the idealism, sobriety, and spirituality of this hour. Sanctify both of them to Thy uses, and bless them in their love forevermore. Amen.
  3. God be with you and bless your marriage, sanctifying your home and making fruitful all your righteous endeavours.  May you so live together that your bliss and happiness will giv eyo ua foretaste of the peace of God that reigns in the mansions of eternal felicity.  May the oneness that you now share ever remind you of your mystical union in the Eternal Spirit. Amen.
  4. The vows you have just taken, pledging love, mean far more than mere words ever can.  May their gentle spirit move in you.  May your years fulfill the beauty of the feelings expressed today, and may you always put these vows above the things that make life smaller.  May God always be with, protect, and guide both of you, now and forever.  Amen.
  5. To be loved is to know joy and happiness, to give love is to know the joy of sharing one's self for it is through the miracle of love that we discover the fullness of life.  May god be with, protect, and guide both of you now and forever.
  6. "Prayer of Love"
Our prayer for you is this:
That you will always remember the qualities that attracted you to each other when you first met, and how you felt as your feelings of attraction turned to respect, admitation, and finally love.
That you will work hard to turn your feelings of love into acts of love so that nothing and no one can divide you.
That you will always have kind and loving hearts that are quick to ask for forgiveness when you are wrong and are as quick to forgive when your partner is wrong.
That your love might grow to hear all things, believe all things, hopw for all things, and endure all things.
We pray you place your marriage in God’s hands, and that your love increases and overflows beyond anything you can yet imagine.
  7. May all that you are always be in love, and may all that is love always be in you. May your love be as beautiful on each day you share as it is on this day of celebration, and may each day you share be as precious to you as the day you first fell in love.  May you always see and encourage the best in each other.  May the challenges life brings your way make your marriage ever stronger and may you always be each other's best friend and greatest love.
  8. As you stand before us now, having commited your love and your lives to one another in marriage, your actions today mirror the ideal of unconditional love.  Continue to hold these promises in your thoughts, your words, and your deeds, and through the years your lives together shall be blessed with health and happiness, peace and prosperity, and with a love that continues to grow, endure, and inspire.  Today we celebrate all that is already yours and look forward to all the rewards yet to come.
  9. Take into account that great love and great acheivements involve great risk, and that a loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.  Be gentle with the earth.  Be gentle with one another.  When disagreements come remember always to protect the spirit of your union.  When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.  Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.  So love yourselves, love one another, love all that is your life together and all else will follow.
  10. May your loves together be joyful and content, and may your love be as bright as the stars, warm as the sun, accepting as the ocean, and enduring as the mountains.  May the sun bring you new energy by day.  May the moon softly restore you by night.  May the rain wash away your worries.  And may you live the days of your lives in peace, love, and happiness.
  11. "The Day of Your Wedding" - Author unknown
Together you share the joy of a deep commitment and a sacred trust.  You have given each other the most precious gift of love.  Treasure it, nurture it, and encourage it with all the honesty you used in creating it.  You are sharing something rare and beautiful.  Speak truthfully and listen attentively so that you may understand each other's thoughts and intentions.  Inspire each other by sharing your accomplishments.  Say "I love you" often to retain the warmth between you.  Laugh often even when you are angry.  After all, you are each other's best friend.  Stand together and for each other always.  Be content in mind and spirit, and strive to make each day a blessing and fulfillment of your dreams.

  12. Blessing of the Hands
Minister holds hands over couple’s hands
Bless these hands that you see before you this day. May they always be held by one another. Give them the strength to hold tightly through the storms and stresses of life. Keep them tender and gentle as they nurture each other in wondrous love. Help these hands to continue building a relationship founded in grace, rich in caring, and devoted to each other. May (Bride) and (Groom) grow to see to see their hands together to be healer, protector, shelter, and guide.

  13. Will you now hold hands and look into each other's eyes?  Blessed (Alternately: Kind and filled with love) be theses eyes filled with love that gaze into your own this day.  As time passes and the face of your beloved changes wth the years, see the love that shall remain ever constant.  Blessed (Warm and open) be these hearts as they reach for one another.  Feel the beat that from this day forward shall forever beat as one with your own.  Blessed (Gentle and devoted) be these hands, dearly, lovingly, and tenderly holding one another this day.  These hands shall grow to be healer, protector, shelter, and guide as you journey through this life together.  Lord, bless and protect (We give thanks and rejoice in) that which has been created in this man and woman.  Bless them (May they be blessed) with a family of their own with which they may one day share this gift of love.  As the years pass, may they ever hold the vision of the love they share this day reflected in each other's eyes, beating hearts, and wondrous touch.
  14. Prayer for Marriage

Most gracious God, we give you thanks for your tender love in sending Jesus Christ to come among us, to be born of a human mother, and to make the way of the cross to be the way of life.

We thank you, also, for consecrating the union of man and woman in his Name.
By the power of your Holy Spirit, pour out the abundance of your blessing upon this man and this woman.
    Defend them from every enemy.
    Lead them into all peace.
Let their love for each other be a seal upon their hearts, a mantle about their shoulders, and a crown upon their foreheads.
Bless them in their work and in their companionship; in their sleeping and in their waking; in their joys and in their sorrows; in their life and in their death.
Finally, in your mercy, bring them to that table where your saints feast for ever in your heavenly home; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
