Weddings by Church of the Green Wood

Benediction and Recessional

Following the vows, you are pronounced married! You may wish to end with a blessing or another prayer at the end before you exit.

  1. May God bless and guard you.  May you have many joys, and be the light of each other's days. May you be the vehicle of Peace, and you be contained in Peace. Go now in Peace, Love, Light, and Happiness. Amen.
  2. We praise Thee, our Father, for the sweetness of mortal love which reminds us of the love of God and Christ.  We thank Thee for the deep love that draws man and woman together in this sacred bond of matrimony, causing them to cleave to one another and to establish a home where virtue, happiness, and truth may abide.  Help them ever to discern the true values of life, to keep fresh and unsullied the idealism, sobriety, and spirituality of this hour. Sanctify both of them to Thy uses, and bless them in their love forevermore. Amen.
  3. God be with you and bless your marriage, sanctifying your home and making fruitful all your righteous endeavours.  May you so live together that your bliss and happiness will giv eyo ua foretaste of the peace of God that reigns in the mansions of eternal felicity.  May the oneness that you now share ever remind you of your mystical union in the Eternal Spirit. Amen.
  4. The vows you have just taken, pledging love, mean far more than mere words ever can.  May their gentle spirit move in you.  May your years fulfill the beauty of the feelings expressed today, and may you always put these vows above the things that make life smaller.  May God always be with, protect, and guide both of you, now and forever.  Amen.
  5. To be loved is to know joy and happiness, to give love is to know the joy of sharing one's self for it is through the miracle of love that we discover the fullness of life.  May god be with, protect, and guide both of you now and forever.
  6. "Prayer of Love"
Our prayer for you is this:
That you will always remember the qualities that attracted you to each other when you first met, and how you felt as your feelings of attraction turned to respect, admitation, and finally love.
That you will work hard to turn your feelings of love into acts of love so that nothing and no one can divide you.
That you will always have kind and loving hearts that are quick to ask for forgiveness when you are wrong and are as quick to forgive when your partner is wrong.
That your love might grow to hear all things, believe all things, hopw for all things, and endure all things.
We pray you place your marriage in God’s hands, and that your love increases and overflows beyond anything you can yet imagine.
  7. May all that you are always be in love, and may all that is love always be in you. May your love be as beautiful on each day you share as it is on this day of celebration, and may each day you share be as precious to you as the day you first fell in love.  May you always see and encourage the best in each other.  May the challenges life brings your way make your marriage ever stronger and may you always be each other's best friend and greatest love.
  8. As you stand before us now, having commited your love and your lives to one another in marriage, your actions today mirror the ideal of unconditional love.  Continue to hold these promises in your thoughts, your words, and your deeds, and through the years your lives together shall be blessed with health and happiness, peace and prosperity, and with a love that continues to grow, endure, and inspire.  Today we celebrate all that is already yours and look forward to all the rewards yet to come.
  9. Take into account that great love and great acheivements involve great risk, and that a loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.  Be gentle with the earth.  Be gentle with one another.  When disagreements come remember always to protect the spirit of your union.  When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.  Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.  So love yourselves, love one another, love all that is your life together and all else will follow.
